Our book for discussion on June 19 will be, “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
The book is set in post-war on the island of Guernsey off the coast of England. The society is set up as an alibi for a group out past curfew, which was being occupied by the Germans. An unexpected exchange of letters with a stranger draws a London writer to this eccentric group and through her correspondence with the others, she is captivated by their stories during the war. As told by these letters, the book starts to reveal the characters.
It has also been made into a movie on Netflix–so we’re going to add a brown bag lunch viewing on Thursday, June 26 at noon, in Room 119 (Family Life Forum) to enjoy the movie version! Bring your lunch, and we’ll supply drinks!
