Youth Ministry
Welcome to The Current FUMC Youth!
The Bible often tells us that life flourishes wherever water is found. We want our youth to flourish, too. Just as a river’s Current flows, causing life to flourish, we want The Current at Jackson FUMC to lead each youth toward a flourishing life in Christ. As we work and worship together, we lead each other and those around us toward a deeply rooted relationship with God. We continue our lifelong journey of becoming Christ’s disciples through Bible studies, retreats, mission experiences, and small groups.
If you would like to know more about The Current at Jackson FUMC, or if you have any specific questions about any of the opportunities listed above, please contact Mary Beth Bernheisel, Associate Pastor at 422-4002 or mbernheisel@jacksonfumc.org

Getting Involved
Wednesday Nights
Dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, and at 6:00 p.m., the youth gather in the youth center for a short time of prayer and fellowship before breaking out into small groups by grade/gender. Each small group is led by one or two adults who strive to connect with each young person through scripture and accountability.
Sunday Morning
We have three Sunday School classes for youth, all of which meet at 10:00 a.m.
The 6th grade class meets in Room 306 and is led by David Horton. This class is held in conjunction with the Confirmation classes offered to 6th grade students.
The middle school class (7th and 8th graders) meet in Room 305. This class blends active participation and meaningful discussion.
The high school class (9th-12th grades) meets in the Youth Center, Room 300. This class emphasizes sound theology, history, and practical application of Biblical principles.
Sunday Evening
The Current meets every Sunday night from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Everyone in grades 7-12 is invited. We share a meal together and then have a time of worship, Bible study, or recreation. One night each month is designated Family Night, where the whole family can come together to share a meal and then parents can have a time of fellowship together while youth have their own activities. One night each month is also designated for Dinner Out. Worship will begin at 5:00 p.m. on those nights, and then the group will travel together to a restaurant for fellowship over a meal.
Mission Trips
There are a number of opportunities for youth to be involved in service to others. The 6th graders in the Confirmation class serve others as part of their Confirmation curriculum. Youth in grades 7-12 have mission opportunities away from Jackson during spring break and in the summer. They also participate in a number of service opportunities in the church and across the community throughout the year.
Retreats
Retreats may be held at the church, at conference camp, or at a weekend conference with other churches. These are great times for youth and adults to bond and grow together while also taking a break from everyday routines.
