Music and Worship Arts

The Music & Worship Arts ministries at First United Methodist Church exist to enable more perfect worship, both personally and corporately. We SEEK GOD through the arts, recognizing that creativity and imagination are precious gifts. We KNOW CHRIST through proclaiming the Gospel in speech, song and action. We SHARE HIS LOVE by growing together in community, upholding one another in prayer and combining our gifts to make an offering far richer than any could alone.

Participants come with a willing spirit and an eagerness to give their time in service to this congregation and its worship. Be sue to learn about our ensembles and other avenues for ministry. We want to find a way for every person’s gift to be expressed as an act of worship.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir is the primary musical leader at the 11:00 a.m. worship service.   In addition to providing music on Sunday mornings, the Sanctuary Choir also prepares music for special events, including choral works performed with orchestra. Rehearsal is held on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.

First Awakening Band

The First Awakening Band leads music at the 9:00 a.m. First Awakening worship service.  The FA Band currently uses: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, electric bass, saxophone and drum set.  Piano and keyboard are also used.  Rehearsal is held on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in Clayton Hall.

Prime Ringers

The Prime Ringers handbell choir rings monthly during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, and is open to anyone in high school and older.  The Prime Ringers is an auditioned, 13-member, 5-octave handbell choir that rings Schulmeric handbells.

Ringing throughout the year in the Jackson community, the Prime Ringers perform a variety of sacred and secular music at local retirement centers, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. 

The Prime Ringers rehearse Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in the Handbell Room. Please note: An audition is required for this ensemble.

Instrumental

Anyone who plays an instrument is encouraged to share their gifts!  Playing opportunities include worship services, special concerts and other occasions.  Your instrumental gifts are welcome!

Drama

FUMC’s Drama Ministry is open to persons of all ages.  Anyone who enjoys theater, acting, dramatic readings, or other aspects of dramatic expression is encouraged to participate.  Our Drama Ministry participates in worship throughout the year.

Sacred Dance

Sacred Dance is a beautiful form of expression in worship.  Our Sacred Dance ministry is open to all ages, genders and skill levels.  If you enjoy creative and expressive movement, please consider our Sacred Dance ministry.  

Angel Choir

The Angel Choir is available to all preschool children, ages 3 – 4.  Children in the Angel Choir sing in worship at least four times per year, including the Christmas season.  The Angel Choir focuses on music basics including: lots of movement, rhythm, simple songs and fun, Fun, FUN!!

The Angel Choir meets at 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday from September – May. 

Good News Choir

The Good News Choir is open to all children, grades K–2nd. Children in the Good News Choir sing in worship at least four times per year, including the Christmas season.  The Good News Choir has a great time exploring notes, rhythms and making joyful music to the Lord!

The Good News Choir meets at 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday from September  - May. 

Celebration Singers

The Celebration Singers is open to all children, grades 3rd – 5th.  Children in the Celebration Singers sing in worship every other month.  The Celebration Singers focuses on rhythm, singing, music reading and of course… a Ton of FUN!!!

The Celebration Singers meets at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday from September – May.
