How does someone join First United Methodist Church?
Membership may be entered into through making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ or transferring one’s membership from another congregation.
Making a profession of faith is the act of saying, in essence, “I want to be a follower of Jesus.”
Making a profession of faith signifies an acknowledgment and response to God's grace by repenting of sins, declaring one’s faith in Jesus Christ, and professing one’s desire to live as Jesus’ disciple in the Church. An invitation is given at the close of most worship services for those who wish to make a profession or reaffirmation of faith. If someone has not been baptized, he or she is encouraged to speak with a pastor in order to receive baptism in conjunction with or soon after a profession of faith.
FUMC recognizes professions of faith and baptisms from other Christian churches.
For those relocating from another United Methodist Church, there is a simple process of transferring one’s membership from the previous congregation. Please contact a pastor or staff member so that you may be received and welcomed. For those relocating from another Christian denomination, your baptism and profession of faith are recognized by FUMC, and one further question is asked as you join: “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?”
FUMC's staff is happy to discuss any questions you might have regarding membership with you.
